Artists at the Orient & Flume Studio work individually or in collaboration to design glass. Drawn from nature, most Orient & Flume designs echo a common theme. Representation of the creative freedom to develop their own unique style.
Artists of Orient & Flume:
Bruce Sillars a prolific designer considered by other glass blowers to be a true master in glass technique. Grew up in Los Angeles suburbs, worked in ceramics. Later became a technician in the ceramic studio in college. Artist holds a bachelor degree in art with an emphasis in ceramics, glass and sculpture from California State University Chico, in 1973.
Scott Beyers, a master glass artist known for his graceful free blowing designs achieved through the expert use of torch worked techniques. His work displays the most delicate and sensitive colors and sense of movement.
William Carter, glass artist is fascinated by the idea of hot, molten glass being manipulated to form art pieces that, upon finishing end up so cool and smooth. His specialty " Torch Working", using a hand torch to melt colored glass canes. Dramatic designs including flowers and foliage.
Richard Barley, music & art both influence the independent personality of Artist. Quoted from the artist " I was always getting into trouble for drawing, ever since kindergarten. In high school he drew from favorite subject. His introduction to art glass came through a three year independent study program at Central Washington State in glass blowing.
Jeff Howell, designer & artist received his BA of Art degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of California, San Diego. He received his Masters from UC Santa Barbara, in Physical Chemistry. He became interested in art glass, while manufacturing chemical instruments and performing the task of scientific glass blower, dealt with distiller apparatus and test tubes.
