B. Altman and Company was a New York City based department store funded in 1865 by Benjamin Altman. The Store officially closed on December 31st, 1989. These Medieval porcelain tiles, portrait of a man and a woman, was made for the department store in vintage era. Each, beautifully hand decorated etched, engraved, painted, enameled, mounted on a gilt background, framed. Each has scripted printed, written by hand labels, which indicates " J-A-S Item # Imported Porcelain Cries of London Plaque Framed and Styled for B. Altman and Co" . One of the first American Department Stores to open out of town branches in 1865. Generally in very good condition, without appearance of any repairs or visible imperfection.
